SAILS
Cornwall has some of the best sailing waters in the country. Beautiful coastline, seas, rivers and creeks await you. Hidden beaches that only boats can access, stop offs at waterside inns, lazy days, bracing days and all that sailors could want.
Boat rentals can be booked at a number of places - Falmouth, Mylor, Loe Beach to name a few.
Whether it’s a sailing boat, a RIB or motor boat, there’s nothing like a day or two on the water in Cornwall.
HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS:
Restronguet - cruise up the river to Restronguet and stop at the glorious13th Century Pandora Inn for a drink or some lunch. This pub has the one of the best views in Cornwall and with flagstone floors, low-beamed ceilings and its famous thatched roof and a good reputation for excellent food you will not want to leave.
Helford - sail the tranquil waters of Helford and Helford Passage. See Frenchman’s creek made famous by Daphne Du Maurier in her novel of the same name. There are two pubs opposite on each side of the river - The Shipwright’s Arms in Helford and the The Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage. Both offer great food and views set in this tranquil creek.
Mylor - Mylor is a charming village with a marina and boat rentals. There are 2 great cafes for breakfast or lunch, the Cafe Mylor and Castaways, both situated right on the harbour. From Mylor you can explore the waters of the River Fal, go across to St Mawes and along the coast to secluded coves and beaches or moor up to gaze at St Anthony Head lighthouse - take a picnic and soak up the sun.
Falmouth - Falmouth has one of the world’s largest natural harbours. There are sailing schools and boat rentals from Custom House Quay. From Falmouth you can explore the River Fal and all its beautiful creeks and inlets. For more experienced sailors there are regattas and races during the summer.
Fowey - Fowey, like Falmouth, has an outstanding and extensive natural harbour, which makes it one of Cornwall's primary sailing centres. Therefore this makes it rarely congested plus there are facilities for all types of craft. The River Fowey is a long, navigable river again with inlets and creeks, extending north to the historic town of Lostwithiel. Deep water extends as far as the north end of Wiseman's Reach and hidden away on its own creek is the famous Sawmills Studios where musicians have recorded world famous music for the past forty years. Fowey is also famous for it’s links to Daphne de Maurier who called Fowey her home town, many of her novels were set in and around this beautiful part of Cornwall.
