ALISON’S BEST ICE CREAM review
Nothing can beat an ice cream stop on top of cliff during a coastal walk, sat on a harbour wall in a Cornish seaside town or sat soaking up the sun on a beautiful beach.
So many locations to choose from but here are a few of my favourites.
First Choice would be at Callestick Farm found just outside Truro near the North Coast so really close to Starlight Barns. The farm is home to 300 cows and makes this famous local ice cream there at the farm. They have a tea room where you can also enjoy this rich creamy ice cream. The grass fed herd help make the ice cream so tasty but they tell us the main reason is the type of cream they turn the milk into - clotted cream! The ice cream is available all over the county but we like to visit the farm.
Second choice would be Swanpool Beach where there is a lovely little café which is the home of quirky ice creams! Enjoy a lovely walk from Falmouth Gylly beach around the path for a pit stop at Swanpool. Order a Hedgehog or Malt Pleaser - they use Callestick ice cream and smother it in clotted cream then top the cone with a variety of extras from jelly babies to Maltesers - not for the faint hearted! Take a pew on the sea wall and enjoy watching the waves. (Car park and toilet facilities are available)
Third Choice is a Chapel Porth Beach, part of the National Trust. Park at the very top of the hill and enjoy the walk down to this beautiful beach. Find the little café at the back of the small car park and purchase your ice cream before taking the path to the left hand side of the road, climbing for around 10 minutes you will find a lovely bench to sit and take in the spectacular views. (Very small car park and toilet facilities are available)
Enjoy your holiday
